Mark James was born in Barnstaple, North Devon in 1986. Captivated by music from an early age he became involved in a variety of musical endeavours including, choral singing, campanology, musical theatre, and playing the piano. First inspired by the sound of the organ while a server within the St Brannock's Chapter, he was later tutored by David Weatherill FRCO at St. Mary's Bideford, Devon. In the same year he was elected summer Organ Scholar at The Shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham. He was also awarded a University Music Scholarship which enabled him to continue studies with Paul Morgan at Exeter Cathedral, and Anne Marsden Thomas from The St Giles International Organ School.
While at Exeter, Mark contributed energetically to the music scene, holding committee positions and directing the University Brass Ensemble; culminating in a performance at the Glastonbury National Pilgrimage. In his final year he gained the diploma, Dip ABRSM in organ performance and performed widely as an both an accompanist and soloist.
After graduating, Mark left the undulating Devon hills for the Fenland of The King's School, Ely where he was appointed Choir House Music Tutor. This special role saw him working within the school music department and supporting the Cathedral choristers. Mark's two-fold teaching and music vocation led him to London where he has been able to fulfil both as a class teacher and Director of Music at St. Peter's Ealing.
