Dear St Peter's and Friends

COViD-19 restrictions have been removed, replaced with guidance that emphasises the personal and corporate responsibility of individuals and organisations to protect others and themselves. As Christians we believe that everyone is known and loved individually by God, as many members within one body we are called to be responsible to and for one another, respecting the more vulnerable whose suffering is our suffering (1 Corinthians 12.12-27). This change in approach to coronavirus means we are being asked to take even more personal responsibility around the virus.

As restrictions lift there remain the legal responsibilities of the incumbent, the PCC and the duty of the churchwardens to maintain order and decency in the church and the churchyard. In every situation there is likely to be a range of feelings about risk, both to ourselves and to others, that will need to be accommodated by our community. There will also be a need to be guided by local situations and infection rates, watching out for guidance from local and national government.

All of these points are to be considered and we should be considerate of others, remembering Jesus’ command to love our neighbours and not to be judgemental.

In light of this we have relaxed restrictions. The Church building is now open 7 days a week, 9am until 5.30pm. We have returned to singing as part of our worship. We have slowly and carefully begun to open many of our regular activities and to have meetings in person where appropriate. We are also keen everyone should feel safe and welcome, masks are encouraged if that makes you feel safer and there are places to worship with social distancing in place. We want you to come and enjoy life at St Peter’s. If there are ways we could improve please let us know. Come and join us.

Love and prayers,

Fr David
